I'm thirty and I spent more time in the car last year than I did living at my own address.
Every month I'm somewhere new - a house-sit, a hotel, somebody's guest room - and every time I have to work out how to live there. So that's the one question these letters answer, from a different room each month: how did I settle in this time?
Sometimes it's the desk. Sometimes it's negotiating with somebody else's dog. Sometimes it's realising I never unpacked at all. The question stays the same. The answer never does.
What's in the envelope
The letter
A real letter on paper, written from wherever I'm staying that month. Not a newsletter printed out - a letter.
The postcard
A postcard from the place it's sent from, with my favourite something there written on the back - a meal, a drive, a trailhead, a sunset - and one line on why. Something for the fridge.
How it'll work
- 1
Put your email on the list. It's free and it doesn't commit you to anything.
- 2
When enough people want one, I open Care Of and email you once to say so. That's the only email the list ever sends.
- 3
$10 a month, one letter a month, posted to US addresses to start.
- 4
Stop whenever you like.
Why "Care Of"
Every letter is written from someone else's home, so it really does come to you care of somebody else's address. Whose house it is stays private. I never name or locate the homes we look after, and nothing goes out while I'm still there.
Get on the list
Leave your email and I'll tell you when the first letters go out.
One email when it opens, nothing else. Kept on this site, never shared - privacy.
