My coffee is starting to go cold - might be time to shift to a new seat closer to the windows to see all those birds I’m hearing. This house doesn’t lack for options thankfully. It’s one of the bigger ones I’ve stayed in - huge kitchen, two living spaces, two offices, a guest room, and the main bedroom. Truly enough space for the two of us to spread out for work or to chill. Compared to the last place, this is truly a palace. It definitely makes you appreciate the extra work you put in when looking at housesits. If you had asked me a year ago if this would be my life, I would have emphatically said no, but now that I’m here, I can’t imagine anything different. This time last year we were spending a lot of time helping family, living in a house that wasn’t ours, and dreaming of being anywhere but stuck where we were. Now that we’re living without a permanent address, I think we took our stuck feelings to the other end of the scale with full abandon.
We really embraced this life full time in August 2025. Just up and packed our life up in a storage unit and hit the road. We had spent so much time roadtripping locally and then with family that we spent at most six months of a twelve month lease at our place. We had been ready, we just didn’t know it yet. We started out really big by switching coasts to Washington DC for a month and a half. And then we hit California for another couple months.
We had been ready, we just didn't know it yet.
We then stumbled into creating a business together, cause that’s what you do when you’re with your partner 24/7 exploring the world, so all that refreshment shifted into extra work. I don’t mind the long days, I’m feeling truly productive. Honestly the hardest parts so far have been just learning a new house every couple of weeks and trying to find good places for both of us to work in some of these houses. The smaller spaces are always so much more challenging.
We’re back in California for a while. We’re enjoying the southern weather and access to such beautiful views within a couple minutes on the road. Looking back at every place we’ve stayed, I think I may have the strongest attachment here to SoCal - but we’re not done yet so I’m curious if that’s going to hold as we keep moving.
