The animals we've looked after on the road, one house-sit at a time - mostly dogs and cats, and now and then a horse. No names, no addresses.
A few of these are family - pets we've loved as our own. The rest we borrowed: someone else's dog or cat, ours for a week or a month before we handed them back at the door. It stops mattering which is which almost immediately. The ones who steal the covers, the ones who want to exist under your skin, the ones who need company just to eat, the ones who want snuggles and the ones who are perfectly fine without - they're all the good ones. Getting to be a temporary person to this many animals is, honestly, the best perk of the whole strange life.
