What I collect, why, and how to be taken off the list.

Short version: I collect an email address if you give me one, and anonymous numbers about which pages get read. I do not sell anything to anyone, and there is no template language on this page.

If you join the Turnout

The Turnout is the waiting list for the letter club. If you put your email in it, three things are stored:

  • Your email address. So I can tell you when the letters start.
  • The date and time you signed up. So that if I later move the list into a proper email tool, I can show when you agreed to be on it.
  • Which page you signed up from. So I know which writing actually makes people want the letters. Nothing about who you are.

That is the whole list. No name, no location, no IP address, nothing from your browser.

It is stored on Cloudflare, which is where this site already lives. It is not shared, not sold, and not passed to anyone else. It is separate from my Substack - joining one does not put you on the other.

I will email you about the letter club. I will not use the list for anything else.

If you enquire about work

The form on the work with me page stores five things: your email, the budget band you picked, whatever you wrote in the message box, the date and time, and which page you sent it from.

I use it to reply to you. It is not shared, not sold, and not added to any mailing list. It sits in the same place as the rest of this - on Cloudflare, where the site already lives.

Getting taken off

Send me a message on Instagram, at @farfromidle, and I will delete your row. You do not have to give a reason, and I will not ask for one.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager. It counts visits and tells me which pages people read and roughly where in the world they are. It sets cookies to do that, which is what the notice at the bottom of the screen is about.

I do not use it to identify anyone, and I have no way to connect a visit to a person. If you would rather not be counted, a tracker blocker will stop it and nothing on the site will break.

Substack

The essays live on Substack, which is not mine. If you subscribe there, Substack holds that subscription under its own privacy policy, not this one.

Changes

If I start collecting something new, this page changes in the same breath. It is short on purpose so that staying honest is easy.
